The Project: Full Album Art for Hubris

Our artist Mayte CG was commissioned to create all the album art for “Hubris”, the second full-length album by Akroasis, a melodic death metal band from Switzerland. This project encompassed the entire album artwork package for both digipak and vinyl editions.

The Concept Behind the Album Artwork

Akroasis draws inspiration from Greek mythology. For “Hubris”, the band explores this ancient Greek concept of excessive pride and arrogance, often resulting in divine punishment.

Previous Work: Album Art for “Ilion”

Mayte CG’s relationship with Akroasis began with their debut album, “Ilion”, for which she also created the entire album art as well as lyrics videos and custom wraps designs for the drum.

Album Art Process and Deliverables

Creating an album art project like this involves multiple steps and deliverables:

1. Concept development
2. Main cover art creation
3. Adaptation for different formats (digipak and vinyl)
4. Design of supplementary materials (booklet, inner panels, lyrics sheet)

Artistic Direction:

The album’s lyrics explore various stories related to hubris. For the artwork, the band chose to highlight Niobe’s tragic tale, perfectly encapsulating the album’s theme.
